"Recent Incident in Dubai Involving Protector"
I wanted to share an article that's been all over social media and has caught my attention. Our group should discuss this.
Summary: Cornell Whitfield, a US bodyguard working for the R&B artist Trey Songz, has been sentenced to a year in jail in Dubai for allegedly "slapping" a fan who tried to approach Songz. Whitfield claimed he acted in self-defense and was simply performing his duties as a protector.
My commentary:
One of the key tenets I always emphasize when traveling abroad for protection assignments is the paramount importance of understanding local laws.
Every country has its unique legal system and cultural norms, and it's essential to be well-versed with these before stepping foot on foreign soil. It's also beneficial to have local law enforcement accompany or be in close contact with your protective team, ensuring a more harmonized response to any situation that might arise.
What are your thoughts on this?
Was the judgment fair based on the information given?
How can protectors better prepare themselves for international assignments?
Are there specific training or informational resources that you recommend for understanding the legal intricacies of countries commonly visited?
I am looking forward to hearing your insights and perspectives. Stay safe and vigilant out there.
